Summary:

At 21 years old, Incze Zoltan walked into the hospital for a quick surgery to remove a swollen node from his face and walked out with a dreaded diagnosis: cancer.

But he decided right then and there that he would be a survivor. He battled and won and then realized he didn’t want to go back to his old life…

He made all the mistakes a player could make, but after reading psychology books, reviewing hands, and taking notes on every poker strategy content he could find, Zoltan grew into a winning player.

With the same determination he used to overcome cancer, Zoltan followed his passions to study hard and become a professional poker player.

Today, Zoltan runs ThePokerMindset.com, inspires players through his Instagram account, and is working on his second poker book. You can get your free copy of 25 Poker Mindset Tips Every Player Should Know at ThePokerMindset.com.

3 Key Points

  1. After a close call with death, Zoltan decided to live the life he wanted on his own terms. He chose not to return to the nine-to-five lifestyle and instead became a professional poker player. Follow your natural curiosity and live on your terms, investing in your dreams and passions.
  2. As a poker player, the best gift you can give yourself is to learn to handle disappointment. Errors and downswings are all a part of the poker journey—don’t allow one mistake to become many!
  3. Negative self-talk never gets you anywhere in the long term, and your mistakes can serve to improve your game! It’s much more productive (and +EV) to cool down, write your thoughts in a journal, and consider a different way of handling the same situation in the future.
